The River Valley Band come to Slattery’s fresh from their highly acclaimed appearances at the Rhythm & Roots Festival. All fans of Woodstock era outfits such as Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Band, or Bob Dylan are in for a rare treat.

The River Valley Band have evolved into a serious proposition with their brand of Southern American tinged classic rock. Upfront Conor Brett and Danny Cody make a striking vocal duo and the two of them have a charisma and easy going stage presence that most bands can’t touch. Delivering their own tunes like ‘Charles The Beatnik’ with serious energy and a bucket full of swagger the vocalists are backed up by David Thompson banging the drums, Liam ‘Teeno Machino’ Teehan on stand-up bass and Eoghan Leadbetter, who looks like he strolled straight out of Woodstock, stage left on piano.

The brilliant Alice Jago has played a staggering amount of gigs around the country, including opening slots for Roger McGuinn (The Byrds), Paul Brady, The Frames and The 4 of Us. Jago is a singer/songwriter with a unique left-handed guitar style and distinctive vocals. She has honed her craft in many late night acoustic clubs country wide, regularly playing alongside her contemporaries including Mundy, Declan O’Rourke, Paddy Casey and Damien Rice. Her own billings have included: RDS Lisdoonvarna, HWCH festival, Whelan’s, Vicar St., The Olympia, and Sugar Club.

Donna Dunne is one of the music scene’s newest and hottest prospects and now brings her great mix of blues, rock and soul to Rathmines. Donna was previously in a covers band for two years where she gained her confidence and is now a natural when it comes to performing live nothing is excluded.

Music for Silent Movies Night featuring 3epkano & The Piano Man, 9pm - midnight St Louis High School, €15

Rathmines Festival is proud to present a feast for the ears and eyes of daring and experimental cinematic music set to silent films.

3epkano is an experimental / instrumental post-rock seven-piece band / ensemble featuring Mathhew Nolan and Cameron Doyle. They specialize in producing original and innovative soundtracks for films from the silent movie era. 3epkano’s music tries to liberate the image and tap into the atmosphere, the tone that is being generated by the visuals and narrative on screen. Creating music for 3epkano is a process of patient exploration and tentative discovery, the result is a compelling and unique cinematic and musical experience.

Since their inception in 2004, 3epkano have made a name for themselves with live silent movie shows in the Sugar Club, National Gallery of Ireland, Meeting House Square, Kilkenny Arts Festival Savoy cinema and in the Triskel and Mermaid Arts Centres amongst others. Overseas performances include the village square in Penne d’Agenais (France) and the Brooklyn Academy of Music and Lincoln Center in New York City.

Their recent shows not involving classic silent film include several recent multimedia collaborations with Donal Dineen and his extraordinary film footage (Digital Hub, Spiegeltent, National Gallery) and regular music gigs in Vicar Street, St Canice’s Cathedral, Electric Picnic and Whelans amongst others. 3epkano have featured on RTE Radio One on Rattlebag, Around Midnight, Eleventh Hour, On The Fringe and the Arts Show. They have also appeared on RTE television on The View.

Support on the night will come from The Piano Man aka young Cavan composer Cormac McCann. As part of Cormac’s college thesis he composed a daring new score to the classic silent movie, Battleship Potemkin. This was performed to rapturous reviews at the Sugar Club in Dublin. Since then Cormac has written and performed scores to classic Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton silent movies in venues around Ireland.
